Keel laying ceremony for China’s first SOVs

Shanghai Electric’s two Ulstein-designed vessels: On 30 Nov 2022, the first SOVs for wind farms in China had their keel laying ceremony at the ZPMC yard. The two vessels of the ULSTEIN SX195 and SX197 designs are ordered by Shanghai Electric, with scheduled delivery time end of 2023 and early 2024 respectively.

China’s first Service Operation Vessel (SOV) project contains two different designs, both with ULSTEIN’s iconic design features, the X-BOW® and the X-STERN®.

Accommodating 60 POB and 100 POB respectively, these designs are the future enablers to their owner, Shanghai Electric, providing high-efficient, robust, and state-of-the-art O&M service to the end customers. Both designs will focus on optimised operational capacity, capability and economy. With batteries installed, the vessels will provide a low emission footprint when servicing the renewable energy segment.

The two vessels had their steel cutting on 15 September 2022.
