Engineering support for cable laying integration
In early 2021, Ulstein Design & Solutions BV was contracted by NPCC from Abu Dhabi to support the upgrade of the Ulstein designed DLS-4200 heavy-lift pipelaying vessel with a large cable lay carousel on the main deck.

Ulstein has been responsible for assessing the structural and stability impact on the vessel. This has been a challenging job, using detailed FE analysis, as this vessel features Ulstein’s double-deck principle with a large overspan at the ship’s centre line accommodating the pipelay firing line.
Working closely together with NPCC’s project manager Sherif El Seidy and carousel designers Enersea and Neptune Marine from the Netherlands, a class approved solution was accessed with no major below deck modifications.
