Studying ships in operations

Understanding operations is part of the Ulstein innovation strategy. Field trips are a structured approach to gain valuable insight in the operational aspects of a ship. Ulstein representatives have been on board several vessels during operations in the North Sea. Findings are used for further developing our designs.

Photos below are from a field trip onboard the OCV vessel 'Seven Viking' in February 2015. The vessel is contracted by Equinor. During the six days of the field trip, the vessel completed various subsea assignments in the North Sea. These included gas sampling, opening and closing of valves and subsea inspections.

Field study on our volume design - the PX121

Through 2014 and 2015, field studies on board two platform supply vessels of the PX121 design were carried out. Both trips being in winter season, the weather was at times harsh, with storm and wind speed above 50 knots.

Our findings have been used for a modularisation project on the PX121 vessels.

The photo of a PX121 vessel alongside a rig was taken from a passing boat in 2013.
