Acta announces name of newbuild
Published
The construction of Acta Marine’s new built ULSTEIN SX195 walk-to-work DP2 construction support vessel is progressing well and on schedule at Crist shipyard in Poland. Acta Marine has announced that the CSV vessel will sail under the name ACTA AURIGA. The vessel is equipped with the X-STERN® to increase flexibility.
Upon delivery the ACTA AURIGA will join ACTA ORION, her semi-sister vessel, and as such form the second vessel in the Acta fleet dedicated for walk to work, offshore logistics and accommodation services for a variety of clients in the offshore renewable industry.
The vessel is named after the constellation Auriga, Auriga means “the charioteer” in Latin. The charioteer plays a crucial role in logistics and support and is therefore indispensable in the fields of battle. This will also be the endeavour of ACTA AURIGA in offshore wind construction projects and/or related markets such as decommissioning and O&G services; the vessel will break new grounds in workability, in-field agility, offshore logistics and comfort on board for 120 persons combined with a low fuel consumption.
Project progression
The completed hull is expected to be towed from of Crist, Poland to Ulsteinvik, Norway early November 2017. Thereafter Ulstein Verft will complete the outfitting of the vessel and the installation of the SMST provided mission equipment - motion compensated gangway and 3D crane. Delivery of Acta Marine’s ACTA AURIGA is slated for end Q1 2018.
X-STERN
The X-STERN has been designed for increased operability and station-keeping whilst in dynamic positioning mode. The vertical transom plate, a very common aft shape, will create slamming when going backwards or when being positioned with the stern towards waves, wind and current. The X-STERN, however, is a pointed aft. The sloping and higher stern, with its sharp stern shape, improves offshore wind farm service and maintenance. This has an importance when it comes to the flexibility and efficiency of the vessel. The X-STERN improves the crew and passenger comfort and increases the operability through positive effects on station keeping, wave response and safety in harsh conditions. It operates with reduced power and fuel consumption while staying positioned.
